Guest Post: Heart Throb Necklace from The Beading Gem's Shop

Fourteen Days of Hearts & Love
Part 1 of 14

Hearts. Love. Romance. How can anyone not love Valentine's Day?! In celebration of the upcoming holiday. I plan to showcase from February 1st-14th, 2010, fourteen days of jewelry featuring hearts and expressions of love.

The first in this fourteen part series is the Heart Throb Necklace from the new LIFE COLLECTION by designer Pearl Blay from the Beading Gem. I first met Pearl through her blog The Beading Gem's Journal. I read a post or two and I was hooked, now I visit daily to read her informative and inspiring blog.

For the last year or so, Pearl has posted daily articles, tutorials, jewelry resources and information on her blog -but she never posted about her own designs. I found that quite noble of her especially since most designers love to talk about their jewelry designs! Then finally she announced the opening of her NEW etsy shop and LIFE COLLECTION in support of cancer research. When I asked permission to showcase her work, I was completely blown away when she told me that I, in part, was the inspiration behind her starting an awareness jewelry collection. I just love awareness jewelry -don't you? Jewelry with a purpose!

Upon checking out her new shop, I discovered the Heart Throb Necklace and fell in love! Pearl has hand forged, hammered and lightly hand polished a sterling silver heart pendant and wire-wrapped with a single red Czech glass round bead. The pendant is simply stunning, unique and a beautiful piece for your sweetheart! The best part. 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of this necklace (and other pieces in the LIFE COLLECTION) goes to cancer research!

It's a rare occurrence that a designer can or does donate 100% of the net proceeds, so that is quite impressive. As is her handmade jewelry. Don't forget to check out the matching earrings too.

Here is what Pearl says about her new awareness collection:
Cancer has touched both sides of my family and the LIFE COLLECTION for cancer research project is something I have wanted to do for a long time. The funds will directly benefit the new Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Congratulations on your new shop Pearl!!

I truly love posting about other designers who give back. I think it's a great thing to do and wish more designers/businesses did it.
